Tossa de Mar; Medieval town with a large variety of scenery, beaches, and leisure activities. You can get there by car, approximately 40 minutes, but the best way is to go by sea. The boat departs from the beach in front of the Hotel Mont Rosa twice a day at 9.15h and 14 hours, the journey takes approximately 2.30 hours along the pretty route and returns from Tossa at 12h and 16.40 hours. Parc Natural del Cap de Creus; The Cabo de Creus peninsula is one of the largest protected natural parks of Catalunya, measuring in total 13.886 hectares, divided in 3.073 marine and 10.813 terrestrial hectares, a fact which gives it the distinctive feature of being the largest marine/terrestrial park in Catalunya.
It is a lovely landscape where one can see how the Pyrenees reach the Mediterranean sea. It is situated near the village of Cadaques (approximately 1h.30m by car) and is a good choice to spend the day on the beach with wonderful views and opportunities for excursions and scuba diving. Don’t miss the views from the lighthouse.
Parc Natural Aiguamolls de l’Empordà; The Nature Park of “Aiguamolls del Emporda” these wetlands were made a protected area after a large and intense campaign, that started in 1976, designed to avoid the area being urbanized. It is a paradise for bird lovers. It covers various municipalities, including La Escala, Rosas, Sant Pedro Pescador and Ampuries Castle.
Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa-Gorgues-Fageda d’en Jordà; The volcanic area of “la Garrotxa” is the largest exposure of volcanic landscape in the Iberian peninsula. It has around 40 volcanic cones and 20 lava flows. The orography, the earth and the climate make for very varied vegetation, often lush with oak and beech trees of exceptional landscape value. On top of the lava of the “Croscat” volcano we can find the beechwood of “Jorda”, the large forest of “Hayas” which has many wonderful different colours throughout the 4 seasons of the year, and to finish we would recommend a swim in one of the “gorga”, which are like natural swimming pools formed in the rivers.
